TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK AND SIERRA NEVADA OF SANTA MARTA

 

 


     

Ekohab Tayrona - Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1998.  Ekohabs, similar to which Tayronas use to live before conqueror’s arrival,  may be found by Tayrona´s National Park beaches,  at the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta lowlands. The Tayrona, is  most visited of the Colombian National Parks System.

Naboba Lagoon – Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1987. . At 4440 m above sea level this Lagoon is the place chosen by mountain climbers to settle the base camp to get to the picks. The Naboba Lagoon is sacred for the Arhuacos Indians and it is impossible to get her without the authorization of a Shaman. Above at the right, we can se the Colon pick (5770 m)

 

 

 

Unnamed Lagoon Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1987.  In the first plane there are several kind of frailejones.  The couple in the middle belongs to the Espeletia Argentaria specie, while at the left we find Espeletia Grandiflora. Lagoons without name  -  Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1987. These lagoons are the last fresh water trace of huge glaciers which were around them. The glacier prints can be seen over the stones.

 

 

Queen’s Lagoon and Pick - Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1987.  The Queen’s Pick (5.550 m) appears beyond one of the lagoons which is fit by the melted snow from the glacier, which has been leaving its prints over the rock due to its retreat along the years, dramatically increased by the global warming.


 
 

 

Sailing without windmills – Tayrona National Park – Alvaro H. Pescador R.–1998. There are those who say sea water is green, while some others say it is blue. It changes its color along the day and sometimes several color can be appreciated close to the coral reefs.

 

 

 

Pelicans – Alvaro H. Pescador R. – 1998. The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta born at sea level where pelicans, albatross and gulls live, and reaches 5.770 meters height with perpetuate snow mountains. Arhuacos Indians which still live in the Sierra say this pick is part of the Chanduá block, where sacred lagoons reminds as well as the highest mountains of Colombia: the  Colón and Bolívar picks, which conforms a “Y” reaching 5.770 m height.
